We would love to thank EVERYONE for supporting the Toy and Book Sale on 10 May.

Many, may toys and books were donated, in great condition.

The sale 'popped up' in the gym, and 5th class pupils were the eager shopkeepers!

All items sold for either 50 c, €1 or €2 each.

The school raised €270.

Míle buíochas!

The money raised will go towards the bouncy castle hire, for our school sports day in June.

We are in Year One of a two-year Creative School programme.

Year One is all about planning and finding out what pupils really would like to achieve from being a Creative School.

Our Creative Associate is Jo Hennessy, who works with Barnstorm Theatre Company in Kilkenny.

Pupils from the Creative School Committee have met with Jo for a workshop and discussion, and Mrs M Kenny also met Jo, with Mrs Jacob.

Together, we are making a plan for the 2024 - 2025 school year.

For this year, Year One, pupils are engaging in painting and in junk art. 6th Class will also have cookery classes in June.

Over the next year, we hope to move outdoors, to make a school mural, with lots of pupil input, and to create a 'chill - out' area for pupils. We have received funding to help us achieve our aims.

The Creative School Committee and pupils from 3rd and 4th class, have been busy making posters to encourage all pupils to bring in recyclables from home, which are suitable to use for junk art making.

More pictures of the junk art classes will follow.

For now, check out some inspirational work by Mrs Keogh/Ms Treacy's class, on the theme of Insects!

Here is some news from our HSCL, Mrs C. Kenny

Breakfast Buddies – Hug Your Book Event

Date: 15.05.2024

Location: The Dolmen Hotel, Carlow.

On Wednesday the 15 the Family Learning, KCETB marked our first event

which brought groups from Kilkenny and Carlow together to celebrate a

‘Hug Your Book’ themed Breakfast Buddies morning.

The date of 15.05.24 was chosen as it also marks International Day of the

Family. Buses were arranged for Hug Your Book course participants and

their ‘Breakfast Buddies’ on the day.

Groups travelled from 8 schools throughout Carlow and Kilkenny and we

were delighted to welcome 44 parents & guardians along with their Home

School coordinators to join the fun!

The morning was facilitated by Hug Your Book creator Lana McCarthy.

Each participant received a beautiful new book to take home along with a

resource pack and gifts.

We chose ‘You’re Called What?’ by Kes Gray, which had lots of fun

learning opportunities. During the morning, we looked at different reading,

writing, and talking activities that encourage and support children in their

learning.

Teachers and parents attend the event, at the Dolmen Hotel. Mrs Kenny and one parent attended the Breakfast Buddies event.
