Mrs Walshe's multi-talented class visited the Day Care Centre and the Hospital in Castlecomer, to sing carols, on Thursday 21st December.

Having just performed their show, Straw and Order, the previous day in school, the girls were well into the Christmas spirit.

They sang all the favourites, from Jingle Bells and Winter Wonderland, to carols such as Silent Night.

Mrs Jacob and Mrs Walshe and Dee accompanied them on their visit, which was very well received in both the hospital and day care centre.

On Wednesday 20th December, the boys and girls from each class, put on their Christmas play for parents.

The dress rehearsal, earlier that week, was an opportunity for all the pupils to see each class's performance.

Well done to all pupils for learning their lines, so many Christmas songs and carols, not to mention dance moves and actions.

The Christmas spirit was well and truly alive!

Pupils from 2nd - 6th class also took part in their Music Generation recital, which was led by their teacher, Clare Kilkenny.

Thank you to all parents for ensuring costumes were in school for the dress rehearsals, and for coming to support the pupils.

The Parents' Council arranged a magnificent array of buns and cakes for all to enjoy, and it was great to have so many parents and friends support the school on the day. The kitchen was bustling between the performances.

The school raffle was generously supported again, this year.

The list of winners has been sent to families via Aladdin.

We look forward to more happy occasions in 2024!

Storyteller Helena Byrne has been working with Mrs Walshe and the girls from 5th and 6th Class for the past few months.

The girls' project is entitled 'The Magic of Local Lore' and it features stories they gathered from their parents and grandparents.

The exhibition of their stories opened on Friday 8th December, in Castlecomer Library.

It will be available to all during December, please visit and enjoy the rich array of stories. Everything from wedding traditions in Lithuania, to the very first ice-cream shop in 'Comer, to groundbreaking sportswomen, from games and hobbies of the past, to memories of the local mining heritage.

This is an exhibition that is sure to go down in history, itself!

Congratulations to all the pupils involved, to Mrs Walshe and to Helena, for creating such a brilliant resource for us all, and for bringing the past to life.
