Congratulations to the school debating team from 6th class, who under the guidance of Mrs Walshe, reached the FINAL of Concern Debates in Kilkenny Education Centre.

The girls had been working extremely hard throughout the competition.

These are some of the motions the girls had to argue:

‘School uniforms should be a thing of the past’.

‘All schools should be Gaelscoileanna’.

‘Fines should be implemented for households wasting food’.

‘The voting age should be lowered to 16 in ROI/NI’.

‘If we really care about climate change, we should all fly less’.

The speakers on the team were Rachel, Eva and Farrah. The Chairperson, Time-Keeper and Sub were Katie, Ríonach and Ellie - Mae.

Reaching the final of Concern Debates is a wonderful achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication of the pupils and their teacher.

Thanks to the Education Centre for hosting the debates.

5th and 6th class made the journey into the Centre to support the team on the day. Well done to Newtown Dunleckney N.S. who won the debate.

When challenged to skip as high as the tallest mountains in Europe, the pupils of Pres Comer confidently grabbed their skipping ropes and hula-hoops and went for it!

January 27th was the date set for the Active Flag's #FeelGoodFriday event.

Each jump is the equivalent to a metre in height. We studied the heights of Europe's peaks.

This picture is from activeflag.ie website.

Each pupil counted his/ her skips.

The concentration was palpable but the fun was even more so! The skipping sessions made everyone feel great. Even if you didn't want to skip too much, you could turn the rope with a partner, and a third person could skip. or you could help a friend to count and record their skips!

Some classes used hula hoops for their skipping challenge.

Our next step was to add our skips together. What mountains did we scale? How many metres had we climbed, with our class' skips combined??

We will update our blog with the Skipping Challenge Results, asap!

Just before the Christmas holidays arrived, we celebrated in school in lots of different ways. One special way of celebrating was to put on our Christmas shows - in which all pupils performed! It was fantastic to have our shows back on again, the first time since 2019.

Ms Maher's class delighted their audience with seasonal songs, dances and even some jokes!

Ms Tyrrell's class told the nativity story through the songs, dances and actions of The Bossy King!

Mrs Kenny's class brought a little sparkle with Lights, Camel, Action!

Mrs Walshe's class told the marvellous tale of the story behind the composition of Silent Night.

All classes had the opportunity to watch the dress rehearsals, before family members came to the gym for performances on Tuesday.

Pupils from 2nd - 6th class gave their audience an extra special Christmas treat, when Ms Clare Kilkenny - our Music Generation teacher - arrived, to lead them in their choral performances. Traditional songs mixed with pupils' own compositions, some instrumental work, part-singing and even solo singing, all added to the wonder of the occasion. There is no doubt that the talents of all classes were on display, on stage.

Well done to everyone!

Thank you to all parents for helping to source costumes and for attending the shows, and also to all who helped with the Christmas raffle this year.
