Happy Presentation Day!
November 21st marks the Feast of the Presentation. Our school, along with other Presentation schools from all across the globe, celebrate Nano Nagle, the founder of the Presentation order.
Usually, we at Presentation Convent N.S Castlecomer have a big celebration, with a prayer service, singing, drama, artwork, history projects and so much more. Past staff members visit the school to join us for an assembly.
This year, as we could not all get together as a whole school. Each class, however, remembered Nano, her history and her legacy, by making lanterns, reading our Nano Nagle story books, learning about the Nano Nagle icon, discovering the countries in which the Presentation sisters are at work today, and of course, praying together.
Here is our school's prayer to Nano, as adapted some years ago, by Mrs Betty Brennan:
Here is a powerpoint on the Nano Nagle Icon.
Each boy and girl coloured an oak leaf or an acorn. These were put together to form our oak tree, which is one of the symbols for the Presentation order. Nano began her teaching life in a small school in Cove Lane, Cork City and now there are Presentation schools worldwide.
